Easy Tofu Stir-Fry

The tofu in this stir-fry recipe takes on the flavours
of the garlic, oyster sauce and soy sauce to give this dish its
authentic Asian taste. Serve with steamed rice or pasta. |
Ingredients

firm or extra firm tofu, cubed |

assorted fresh vegetables (red pepper, baby corn, snap peas, carrots) |

mushrooms, sliced |

green onion, chopped |

Thickener
30 mL cornstarch dissolved in 1/4 cup (50 mL) water 2 tbsp
Sauce
| 375 mL |
water |

oyster sauce |

soy sauce |

| 5 mL |
cooking wine |

sesame oil |

Instructions
- Sprinkle salt over tofu cubes and mix well.
- Sauté garlic and tofu in oil until sides of tofu become slightly brown.
- Combine sauce ingredients. Set aside.
- Add mushrooms, assorted vegetables and sauce mixture to tofu. Stir, cover and cook until boiling. Lower to medium heat and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Add black pepper, green onions and thickener. Stir well and cook until sauce is thickened.
- Serve over pasta or rice.
Makes 6 servings.
For a quicker stir-fry, sauté fresh vegetables and firm tofu
until veggies are tender crisp and tofu is lightly browned. Add a jar
of ready-made stir-fry sauce, heat through, and serve with rice.
